Philly based Dancehall MC Mista Chatman Flips Dem Bow into Dystopian Bass on New video "Rid Of Me (Boom Jawn)" Dropping August 30th
PHILADELPHIA, PA — Independent Dancehall MC and Ensemble Arts Philly/Kimmel Center professional Mista Chatman is set to release his highly anticipated new music video, "Rid Of Me (Boom Jawn)," on August 30th, 2026. The track marks a bold sonic evolution for the artist, directly inspired by his relocation to Philadelphia’s Afro-Latino/ Industrial Harrowgate neighborhood.
"Rid Of Me (Boom Jawn)" is a dark, mechanical reinterpretation of global club music. Sitting at a heavy, slouching 99 BPM with a rigid 52% swing, the track strips away the bright melodies of commercial music. Instead, it weaponizes Mista Chatman’s raw dancehall MC vocal delivery, fusing his lyrics of resilience with the hypnotic thump of a Dem Bow riddim, industrial keys, and heavy linear sub-bass.
The music video also serves as a visceral, audiovisual tour through Philadelphia's rawest architectural landscapes. Filmed on location, the visual drops viewers directly into the subterranean isolation of the Broad & Locust BSL subway station, the looming steel structures of the Sedgley Power Grid, a cavernous industrial warehouse at Castor & Amber, and beneath the steel shadows of the Market-Frankford El train line at Kensington & Tioga. In a striking display of dystopian isolation, Mista Chatman appears as the sole living presence moving through these desolate spaces—juxtaposed only by passing mass transit and his own wardrobe of vibrant, culturally rich dashikis that bring a burst of ancestral life to the cold concrete grid.
"Moving to Harrowgate completely shifted my creative lens," says Mista Chatman. "The hum of the power grids, the concrete decay, and the heavy Dem Bow riddims rattling from passing cars demanded a sound that felt both ancestral and dystopian. As a dancehall MC, my voice is built to ride heavy riddims, but 'Rid Of Me (Boom Jawn)' pushes that vocal energy into a dark, mechanical future."
By day, Chatman works within the polished infrastructure of the city's highest-profile arts institution at the Kimmel Center. By night, he channels that understanding of large-scale production into the raw, forward-thinking underground global bass scene.
